Founded in May 2014, AREVA H2Gen is a joint venture derived from an alliance of 3 partners –

ADEME, AREVA, and SMART ENERGIES – formed to create a leading French producer of carbon-free hydrogen.

ADEME, the administrator of the French Future Investments Programme (PIA) and responsible for accelerating energy and ecological transition, As part of the future Investments Programme, supervised by the General investments commission (CGI-Commissariat Général à l’Investissement), ADEME is providing strategic funding assistance.

SMART ENERGIES included its subsidiary CETH2 (Compagnie Européenne des Techniques de l’Hydrogène), which adds 25 years of R&D experience in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysis.

AREVA also contributed  its electrolysis operations, along with its specialised knowledge in the field of high-pressure PEM technology.

With its construction of the production facility at Les Ulis, AREVA H2Gen is now the only manufacturer of electrolysers in France. These products  are high-tech, high value-added industrial machines that are the ideal for producing hydrogen from intermittent renewable power sources.
